2021 Ford Expedition

2021 Ford Expedition

Although the Expedition seems like an absolute class leader at the moment, it looks like the company prepares a facelift for the next year. The reason is simple. Key rivals are coming with plenty of novelties in the near future. The next-generation Chevy Tahoe is coming completely redesign, as well as the Chevy Suburban. Also, the famous Jeep Wagoneer is coming back, which means that the competition will be much tougher in the future. Ford seems ready for the challenges, as it already started to work on updates of the current-generation model, which was introduced a couple of years ago. Therefore, the 2021 Ford Expedition is about to come with a fine portion of updates. Most of them will be in terms of aesthetics but could come in some other aspects as well.

Pros

  • Powerful and efficient engine
  • Plenty of cargo space
  • Spacious third row
  • Great towing ratings

Cons

  • Base trims lack some essential features
  • Competition is getting stronger

The 2021 Ford Expedition is about to receive a major update and most of the changes should be in terms of aesthetics. Although we are still waiting for the details, we can presume that the new version will go in the same direction as F-150 went recently. The legendary truck received a facelift recently and we expect same kinds of changes in its SUV sibling as well. This would mean a new front face, with new headlights, new grille design, etc. On the other side, the rest of the body will probably remain untouched. This means a familiar body, which comes in two versions, with either standard or stretched wheelbase.

Mechanics are about to remain untouched. This SUV features a very advanced design, characterized by the massive use of lightweight materials like aluminum and HSS. Despite the size, this SUV is quite efficient and also very maneuverable and easy to handle.

Interior

2021 Ford Expedition interior

The interior of the 2021 Ford Expedition probably won’t suffer that much. Allegedly, the biggest novelty will be an addition of a familiar 8-inch touchscreen to base trim levels. Despite the dashboard looks pretty much the same as in the truck sibling, it seems quite attractive, mainly because of the use of fine, upscale materials. Still, the strongest point of this SUV is rather its spacious cabin and overall functionality. All three rows of seats are very generous in terms of leg and headroom, so eight adult passengers can be comfortable accommodated without bigger problems.

Also, the cargo area is very generous. In standard models, you can count on 21 cubic feet behind the third row, while the overall cargo volume goes around 105 cubic feet. Numbers are even more impressive in long-wheelbase models, which offer 36 cubic feet behind the third row and impressive 121.5 cubic feet of overall cargo space. Practically, the GMC Yukon XL the only model that offers more cargo volume, for about negligible 0.2 cubic feet of overall cargo space.

2021 Ford Expedition Engine

Things under the hood are about to remain the same. The 2021 Ford Expedition will continue with a familiar 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine. In base versions, it delivers around 375 horsepower, while in higher trims a max output bumps to 400 horsepower. In both cases, it comes with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. Performances are great, while the fuel economy is also quite good. Still, an amazing 9.300 pounds of a max towing capacity is probably the most impressive thing about this powertrain.

Some reports are suggesting a hybrid version in the near future, but we are still waiting to hear something from the officials on this subject.

2021 Ford Expedition Release Date and Price

This update will probably mean a little bit earlier launch date than usual. Still, the 2021 Ford Expedition definitely won’t come before the last quarter of the next year. We don’t expect bigger changes in price, so base models should go around $52,000.
