This amazing compact crossover has been around 2014, so it’s no wonder many reports suggest a complete overhaul for the next year. The second generation is about to come as the 2021 Porsche Macan and it will bring a lot of novelties. Of course, we will see those typical changes in terms of design and features, but the most important will be under the hood. The new model will go full electric.
At this point, the details are unknown and it is a little bit unclear since there are opposite reports about the 2021 Porsche Macan. While some reports suggest the new all-electric version will come along with gasoline models, others claim the new crossover will come exclusively with electric motors and battery pack. In any case, we expect to see it in the second half of the next year.
- Excellent performances
- Hi-end cabin
- Tons of additional torque with electric drivetrain
- Traditionally excellent reliability ratings
- Gasoline versions could easily be dropped
- High price tag
This is by far the most important feature of the new 2021 Porsche Macan. Despite opposite reports, it is certain that the new generation will be available in the all-electric version. Unfortunately, details are still unavailable, but unofficial reports suggest the new version would come in several grades, with a range that goes from 240 to 300 miles. We also expect to see different power outputs in the offer. A top-range version would be able to match the performance of the currently top-range model – Macan Turbo.
As we already mentioned, it is still unclear whether gasoline units are about to carry on or not. We are much closer to the scenario where internal-combustion engines will be offered as well, so count on the company’s familiar units in the offer, of course with upgrades in terms of power and overall efficiency.
2021 Porsche Macan Redesign
Of course, this redesign will bring many other novelties as well. If the new model is about to go electric-only, it seems certain that the 2021 Porsche Macan will ride on the new PPE platform, developed with Audi. This architecture is designed especially for electric models and should be the core of future VW Group lineup.
Still, don’t exclude the possibility to see gasoline engines in the offer as well. If this happens, the 2021 Porsche Macan would stick to the current MLB platform which would, of course, come with lots of upgrades in various aspects, including compatibility for electrifications. Such an approach would also open the possibility for hybrid powertrain options. In any case, many see the new model as a direct competitor to the new Jaguar I-Pace.
Redesigns usually bring various novelties in terms of aesthetics, so the 2021 Porsche Macan won’t be an exception. The new generation probably won’t change too much in terms of size. Also, the styling shouldn’t go far away from the current model. The current model is designed in a typical Porsche manner and takes a lot of inspiration from the bigger Cayenne. Also, the German carmaker is well-known for conservative styling policy, so changes for this redesign would be rather subtle. Also, we doubt that Porsche is willing to introduce too many distinctive details that would accentuate the model’s electrified character.
On the inside, bigger changes are possible. Still, keep in mind that the current model features one of the nicest cabins in the class, despite it competes with models like Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC etc. It is full of hi-end materials and loaded with features. We expect nothing less from the upcoming model. So, count on a load of updates, especially in terms of the latest tech goodies and advanced safety systems. In terms of the size and interior space, we don’t expect any bigger change, though the battery could reduce overall comfort for a bit.
