The new generation of the famous pickup truck has been introduced last year but that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing novelties in the upcoming years. The initial model came with familiar FCA units, but more versions are about to come as well. One of them is 2021 RAM 1500 Diesel. In the past, oil-burners were reserved for HD models only, but things are changing these days, so light-duty models will feature them as well.
In this particular case, we count on a familiar unit from VM Motori, with possible updates. Other than that, the new model shouldn’t be much different compared to gasoline versions. Count on the same design, cabin layout, standard equipment, etc. The 2021 RAM 1500 Diesel should hit the market in the next year.
2021 RAM 1500 Diesel Design
- Efficient diesel engine
- Upscale cabin
- Smooth and comfortable ride
- Great towing figures
- Might be a little bit expensive
- Competition is getting serious
Other than a diesel engine, this model shouldn’t feature other notable differences compared to gasoline versions. Therefore, count on the design that has been introduced last year, which includes a completely new platform, which is characterized by a massive use of light materials and high overall efficiency. The new model will come in all three cab layouts – single, double and crew.
In terms of the styling, the 2021 RAM 1500 Diesel follows the brand’s newest design language, which comes with much more attractive design solutions. Among notable things, it is good to mention that the new model has dropped the famous crosshair grille design, after years of use.
The new generation of this truck features arguably the finest cabin in the class. No other truck offers such refinement. This cabin looks very upscale, with stylish design and hi-grade materials. All this leads us to the conclusion that the 2021 RAM 1500 Diesel will be the same. We don’t expect to see any notable difference, except for the instrument cluster, which will be adapted to a diesel engine.
In terms of standard equipment, all versions will come with things like the UConnect infotainment system, three USB ports, Bluetooth, push-button start and more. Higher trims will add things like a bigger touchscreen, navigation, premium audio system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, etc.

The most important feature of this version is, of course, the engine. Diesel engines are in a bit of demand in the past few years, so most truck makers are planing them for the future, including closest rivals Chevy Silverado and Ford F-150. The former is about to come with a familiar 3.0-liter Duramax V6, which delivers 280 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, while Ford’s Powerstroke is slightly weaker.
The 2021 RAM 1500 Diesel will come with a familiar 3.0-liter inline-six, which comes from the renowned Italian company VM Motori. It currently powers models like Grand Cherokee, with a max output of around 260 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. Still, we won’t be surprised if we see a slight power boost. Besides decent power, this engine also features a pretty good fuel economy.
The Grand Cherokee returns over 30 mpg on the highway. The engine will be paired with a familiar 8-speed automatic transmission. Although it is still early to talk about specific numbers, the latest reports are suggesting a quite impressive towing capacity of more than 8.000 pounds.
2021 RAM 1500 Diesel Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2021 RAM 1500 Diesel sometime in the second half of the next year. Although it is still early to talk about price, many reports suggest around $35,000 for the base model. Currently, there aren’t many diesel light-duty trucks on the market, but the situation will become serious already in the next years.
Both Chevy Silverado and Ford F-150 will come with oil-burners. The Toyota Tundra Diesel has been rumored as well. Also, don’t forget the Nissan Titan XD, which is already present on the market for a couple of years.
