Despite that the 2020-year model is coming with a nice number of updates, the 2021 Toyota Tacoma is about to come with novelties as well. The popular pickup is an absolute leader in the segment of mid-size trucks. However, the competition is getting tougher. Of course, Toyota wants to keep its leading position, so various changes are about to come. As you probably know, the upcoming model will bring a lot of novelties, starting from an updated styling, new features etc. However, it looks like the oil-burner won’t come that soon and that will be reserved for the 2021 Toyota Tacoma.
That is probably the biggest novelty we are about to see in this model. Expect to see it sometime late in the next year.
- Unparalleled reliability ratings
- Excellent off-road performances
- High payload capacity
- Good fuel economy with diesel engine
- Not the most elegant cabin in the class
- Thirsty gasoline engines
In terms of the exterior design, the 2021 Toyota Tacoma won’t change too much. The current generation has been around since 2015 but a couple of updates have been presented recently. In terms of the styling, there are a couple of new details at the front, particularly in terms of the new grille. On the other side, mechanical upgrades include suspension tweaks, especially in the off-road, TRD-badged models, which get new shocks and several other parts.
These changes aren’t numerous, but definitely, are very nice. Therefore, we don’t expect to see more of them in the upcoming model. The 2021 Toyota Tacoma should continue in the same way, as well as the following year models until we see a complete redesign. Possibly, we could see new color options in the offer and similar things.
The Tacoma has never been the most stylish vehicle when it comes to interior design. The 2021 Toyota Tacoma won’t be either. Still, there is a nice amount of upgrades that came this year. First of all, this truck finally gets a power-adjustable driver’s seat. Also, there are some nice upgrades in term of tech features. This truck now features a new infotainment system, along with the new 8-inch touchscreen.
Among other upgrades, this system is now also compatible with the latest smartphone integration features, such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa. For the 2021 Toyota Tacoma, we don’t count of too many updates. It is possible to see a couple of new standard features, especially in terms of safety, but things in general are about to remain the same.

Probably the biggest novelty for the 2021 Toyota Tacoma would be a new diesel engine. This version was expected already for the 2020-year model, but it looks like it won’t happen. However, we are pretty sure that Toyota won’t give from this idea, considering that diesel engines are becoming popular among mid-size trucks. The Chevy Colorado offers diesel version for years, while the new Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator are about to offer their diesel versions as well.
Therefore, the 2021 Toyota Tacoma is expected to do the same. We presume it will use a familiar 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which delivers around 177 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. Of course, a slight power boost seems possible for this occasion. In any case, benefits from this engine will be numerous, starting from better fuel economy and higher towing capacity.
On the other side, gasoline units are about to continue in the same way. Base models will come with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder unit, which is good for about 160 horsepower. On the other side, higher trims will carry on with a 3.5-liter V6, which delivers around 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque.
2021 Toyota Tacoma Release Date and Price
Despite the potential novelties, we are pretty sure that the 2021 Toyota Tacoma won’t come before the last quarter of the next year. When it comes to the price, base models will go around $25.000, while the new diesel version will probably feature starting price of around $30.000.
